Overview of Chargeback Protection
Chargebacks are disputes raised by cardholders to their respective banks (issuers) after a payment has taken place. They can be raised for
various reasons such as not receiving a refund, not receiving goods/services or Fraud to name a few.
Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, offer chargeback protection if merchants participate in 3-D Secure card
authentication programs. The rules on how to defend chargebacks vary across schemes and chargeback dispute reasons. The payer
authentication service helps to prevent chargebacks relating to fraud only. Using the service can help shift the liability of a chargeback
away from a merchant onto the card issuer.
