Capture (Settlement)

A capture, also known as
settlement
, is used to move authorized funds from a cardholder's account to a merchant's account.
When
Smartpay Fuse
receives a capture request, the system checks it for accuracy and puts it in a batch file. Then
Smartpay Fuse
sends a capture reply message to confirm that the request was successfully received. At the end of the day,
Smartpay Fuse
submits the capture request batch file to your acquiring bank to start the bank's clearing process.
It is
Smartpay Fuse
's responsibility to ensure that the batch file is successfully sent to the acquiring bank on time. If there is an error or issue,
Smartpay Fuse
works with the acquiring bank to fix it.
Acquiring banks do not notify
Smartpay Fuse
if a capture fails. You should reconcile your
Smartpay Fuse
Payment Batch Detail Report or Payment Submission Detail Report with the reports from your acquiring bank to be sure that all captures are processed.
Your acquiring bank might notify
Smartpay Fuse
if an individual transaction was rejected on their front end due to bad or invalid data.
Smartpay Fuse
includes this information in the Transaction Exception Detail Report.
See the Payments Developer Guide for more information.
